EG1-SN3 Joy Ride
D+1 | 21 July 1989, 09:00hrs - 14:00hrs vs @ Koenigsfeld
With Kulmbach finally secured the division is continuing its push west. The division commander has decided to commit the fresh panzergrenadier regiment Worried about more NATO tanks, he made a quick decision to strip your regiment's 1st Battalion, and send it west on the heels of the infantry. Worried about leaving his brothers in the panzers, you try to comfort the departing 1st Battalion Commander, telling him that he is simply going along for a joy ride through the newly liberated lands. As you walk away, you can't help but feel a sense of doubt about your last statement to the newly promted Captain.
Initially the grenadiers marched west with no opposition, but by 0800 a West German reserve unit had launched a spoiling attack disrupting the regiment's momentum, and isolating part of a battalion. The decision is made to send the attached 1st Battalion to secure Konigsfeld, and if possible relieve any of the beleaguered panzergrenadiers.
Survivors are strung out along the B22 state highway and on the outskirts of Konigsfeld. Your orders are to secure the two objectives, clear any remaining West German troops and relieve the battered troops. Not much is known of the remaining disposition and location of the enemy. Also, we know there was a report of persistent gas use in the vicinity, so avoid contaminated areas if possible.
