Charles grew up in the great state of Arkansas and graduated High School from Newport High School, Newport, Arkansas. He attended college at the University of Miami with an Army ROTC scholarship. After graduating in 1980, Charles was commissioned into the US with a 74A MOS (Chemical Officer). He served 2 years as an Assistance S-3/Chemical Officer for a Calvary Squadron and 2 years as an Assistance S-3/ Chemical Officer for a mechanized brigade.

Charles started playing war games while in college and was a member of the war game club sponsored by his ROTC unit. He has played war games of all sizes and period, but his favorite is WWII to modern operational and tactical scales. Charles enjoys designing scenarios (thought he admits that his skills are nowhere close to Mad Russian’s skills) and irritating Rob and Captain Darwin by finding weird and deeply rooted bugs in their code.
